Seattle Public Utilities says rates need to go up to keep up with inflation and rising fuel costs and pay for a new table-scrap recycling service.
The proposal comes as city residents struggle with a slowing economy, inflation and rising costs for food and fuel. Seattle voters will also be asked to approve three tax increases on the Nov. 4 ballot to fund new parks, Pike Place Market repairs and more light-rail service.
