Tim Donaghy Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison | Bleacher Report
After Donaghy was removed from officiating NBA games for gambling and making questionable calls, he went on a tirade, accusing other referees and NBA brass of encouraging the calls to protect ticket sales.
On top of his prison sentence, Donaghy must also attend counseling for a gambling addiction and undergo a three-year supervised release.
Two of Donaghy's high school friends were sentenced to more than a year in prison last week. James Battista, a professional gambler, was sentenced to 15 months. The middle man in the scheme, Thomas Martino, was sentenced to a year and one day.
Donaghy faced up to 33 months, but received 15 when the judge took his cooperation into consideration."

Tension mounts ahead of Karadzic rally - CNN.com
The radicals and ultra-nationalists who plan to rally Tuesday evening view Karadzic as a hero even though an international tribunal has charged him with genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the law of war. The charges relate to his actions during the 1992-1995 civil war that followed Bosnia-Herzegovina's secession from Yugoslavia.
Investigators arrested Karadzic -- one of Europe's most-wanted men -- last week, ending his dozen or so years as a fugitive. A judge has ruled that conditions have been met for his extradition to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia at The Hague, but Karadzic's lawyer, Svetozar Vujacic, has the right to appeal.
BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Kelsey Grammer back in hospital
The star was admitted to an undisclosed New York hospital as a precaution, Stan Rosenfield said. His condition was not life-threatening, he added.
Last week, Grammer revealed that his heart had stopped beating after his heart attack in June.
The actor suffered the attack while paddle-boarding in Hawaii.
Grammer, 53, played psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane for 20 years on TV show Cheers and spin-off series Frasier.
Mr Rosenfield said Grammer's symptoms could have been brought on by the medication he was taking.
The actor began to feel unwell while in New York to promote new film Swing Vote, Mr Rosenfield added.
He had been due to appear on the Live With Regis And Kelly show on Tuesday morning which has now been cancelled.
Last week, Grammer told US news programme Entertainment Tonight how he nearly died following his heart attack.
'They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again,' he said."

MTV Movies Blog Breaking News: James Franco Joins Mark Ruffalo In ‘Sympathy For Delicious’
His next post-”Pineapple Express” project, in fact, has him singing with excitement. Literally.
“Mark Ruffalo is gonna direct his first movie and he wants me to play a singer in a rock band,” Franco revealed. “It’s called ‘Sympathy for Delicious.’”
The project, a “drama that’s got comedy in it,” as Franco described it, has been kicking around since at least 2004, when Ruffalo mentioned the film while doing press for “13 Going on 30.”
Based on Franco’s comments, it would seem the film might finally be a go. But just who the heck is Delicious, anyway, and why should we have sympathy for him?
“DJ Delicious. He’s a DJ,” Franco clarified. “This DJ character was written for [Mark's] friend who’s actually paraplegic in real life, Chris Thornton, and he’s this DJ that has kind of a gift. He joins up with my band and then starts getting more attention than me, the lead singer. So I start getting upset about that.”

Two prominent international campaign groups on Monday accused Beijing of failing to meet promises it made on human rights and the environment when it won the bidding to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
At a briefing in Hong Kong, Amnesty International said that the Chinese government’s preoccupation with security and stability in the run-up to the games had contributed to a deterioration, rather than an improvement, in human rights across the country."

The Glass Eye: Breaking Down the Pirates' Trade
The Glass Eye: Breaking Down the Pirates' Trade
Well the white flag finally flew on the Bucs' season, as Pirates' GM Neal Huntingdon traded Xavire Nady and Damaso Marte to the Yankees for 4 prospects: Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens, and Daniel McCutchen. Let's look at each of these prospects and see what the Pirates got.
Karstens, 25, is a right-handed pitcher who has spent the entire year at AAA Scranton. In 12 starts he is 6-4 with a 3.80 ERA, 55 strikeouts and only 15 walks in 68 innings pitched. He spent a small amount of time with the Yankees in '06 and '07 and preformed very poorly, with a 5.65 ERA and 10 HRs allowed in 56 major-league innings. He is not listed among the Yankees' top prospects on either BaseballProspectus or BaseballAmerica.com. My guess is he was acquired to give organizational starting depth, with only a small chance of becoming a quality major-leaguer."

ESPN - Breaking down Team USA's defense - Olympic Basketball
After all, the Canadian national team is probably the weakest team (with the possible exception of Angola) the Americans are going to see the rest of this summer, so we caution everyone against getting overly giddy about this particular display of dominance.
This wasn't Duke-Carolina. This was more like Duke-Belmont Abbey.
But what Team USA's 120-65 victory showed was how the Americans' focus on defensive principles over the course of their week in Las Vegas manifested itself -- both good and bad -- on the floor. And although their pick-and-roll defense showed it still needs some work, the way they used their quick feet and quick hands to disrupt Canada's offense and force turnovers was stifling. And when the second unit, led by the unlikely backcourt duo of Chris Paul and Deron Williams, turned up the defensive pressure, this one turned into a rout before halftime in a matter of just a couple of minutes.
'You could see it unravel very quickly. It shows how qu"
Jankovic hurtling towards No.1 - Breaking News - Fox Sports
From correspondents in Los Angeles, California
July 26, 2008
JELENA Jankovic booked her semi-final berth at the Los Angeles Open, continuing her progress toward the world No.1 ranking.
The top-seeded Serb, who can overtake countrywoman Ana Ivanovic atop the WTA world rankings by lifting the trophy here, passed her toughest test so far this week with a 7-5 6-4 victory over No.9 seed Nadia Petrova.
Although Petrova had lost four of six prior career meetings with Jankovic, she was runner-up to Ivanovic last year on the courts of the Home Depot Center in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson.
While Jankovic doesn't have to contend this week with Ivanovic, who didn't return to defend her title, Jankovic has been dealing with a nagging knee injury she suffered at Wimbledon.
In the semi-finals, the 23-year-old will face No.4 seed Dinara Safina, who beat No.8 seed Victoria Azarenka from Belarus 6-3 6-1."

MyFox Kansas City | Copper Thieves Breaking Into Habitat For Humanity Houses
Two Habitat For Humanity homes in Kansas City on one street were stripped of all the copper wires and tubing, costing $5,000. It's devastating Habitat's budget and its families.
Four homes have been hit in the last two weeks.
'We're looking at plumbing and wiring and the labor for each one,' Ken Wallace with Habitat For Humanity KC said.
Habitat had already made changes to battle copper thefts. It uses mostly plastics throughout the home called Pex, so thieves aren't getting much money.
'It's probably less than $100, but that less than $100 is costing us thousands,' Wallace said.
Habitat is also putting bars on the windows during construction and now they think they need to go to the next step.
'If we could raise money for wireless alarm systems, what they will do is allow us to protect the houses in the construction stage,' Wallace said."
