OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha man has been sentenced to six years in prison for breaking baby's leg and 7 of the infant's ribs.
Jeremy Hammel was sentenced Tuesday for the injuries to 3-month-old Joshua Franklin, discovered in early February when his mother took the infant to an emergency room.
Douglas County sheriff's deputies arrested Hammel soon after the injuries were discovered.
The baby's mother pleaded with the judge Tuesday for a light sentence, saying Hammel cared about the baby.
Hammel will be eligible for parole in 2 1/2 years.
